The Brief
Our clients, a young family with busy professional lives, wanted to modernize their outdated kitchen in this stunning 16th-century property they had recently purchased while preserving the character and integrity of the historic home. Key requirements included retaining their Aga as a focal point, improving lighting, incorporating a concealed coffee station, and maximizing storage. They also desired a large, integrated American-style fridge freezer and a sleek, modern cooking solution that would complement the high ceilings and exposed wooden beams.
The Solution
To seamlessly blend heritage with contemporary functionality, we designed a space that enhances the kitchen’s original charm while delivering modern convenience. A Bora down-draft hob was installed on the island, eliminating the need for a bulky extractor—an impractical option due to the high ceilings and exposed beams. A Fisher & Paykel fridge freezer with stainless steel doors was integrated into a bespoke cabinetry run, maintaining a streamlined look.
To enhance both aesthetics and practicality, we introduced a run of glass-fronted top boxes above the fridge area, complete with internal lighting. A concealed coffee station was incorporated to maintain a clean and uncluttered workspace. Additional lighting was carefully placed throughout the kitchen to improve both functionality and ambiance, ensuring the space was well-lit without detracting from the historic features.
